The city of Hangzhou’s Water Treatment Technology Development Center gained the “green civilization” title at a recent environmental protection activity organized by the city’s Youth League, the municipal environmental protection bureau, and the city’s volunteer work center.
The Water Treatment Center has contributed a lot to wastewater use by getting involved in national science and technology research, key national technology projects, the country’s 863 High-Tech Program, and key provincial science and technology development projects and research.
It was in fact a pioneer in the use of wastewater from the electroplating, paper-making and dyeing industries, involving membrane technology and a leader in the environmental protection sector. It has handled more than 50 wastewater treatment projects for the electroplating, paper-making, waste treatment, dyeing, pharmaceutical, and chemical industries, with a cumulative water treatment capacity of above 1 million tons/day with economic benefits worth more than 10 billion yuan ($1.6 billion).
